Every morning we compile the most important fantasy football links of the day for you to stay up-to-date and ahead of your fantasy opponents… This is your number one place for beat writer blabber, injury news, transaction tracking, and fantasy analysis from the experts who taught us a thing or two.
“Pete Carroll told reporters he “absolutely” expects Jimmy Graham and Thomas Rawls to be ready for regular-season opener.”
There was limited optimism coming out of minicamp regarding Thomas Rawls, and really no update regarding Jimmy Graham until Adam Schefter’s tweet. Graham is coming off a patellar tendon injury and if he sees the field in the preseason, he should be a top-five’ish tight end selection. Rawls on the other hand is coming off a broken ankle and should get the majority of the carries with Marshawn Lynch no longer on the team. Rawls won’t catch a lot of balls, but he will get a ton of carries.
“A thousand receptions, to be honest,” said [Steve] Smith when asked to explain why he didn’t retire. “You’ve got to have something to strive for. I may catch that, in my uniform, get in my car and go home. Straight from there. Drive all the way from M&T Bank [Stadium] straight to Charlotte in one shot.”
One would have to think that Steve Smith was joking when he talked to the media yesterday; however, it is slightly concerning from a fantasy football standpoint. The 37-year-old wideout is coming off of an Achilles injury and looks like he just wants to hit the 1,000 receptions mark. Kamar Aiken and Mike Wallace (possibly Breshad Perriman, if healthy) might be Joe Flacco’s only consistent targets this year. Do not touch Smith before the double digit rounds.
“Pretty apparent the Saints RB rotation is Ingram, Hightower, Spiller at this point.”
Although coach Sean Payton has been optimistic regarding CJ Spiller’s offseason and health, it looks like he is in the same position as last season. It’s pretty embarrassing for Spiller that he cannot beat out Tim Hightower, who did not play in the NFL from 2012-2015. Spiller has been a massive disappointment in New Orleans and do not even waste a late-round flier on the running back.
“Mularkey continues to praise Tajae Sharpe and likely to open camp as starter.”
It looks like the fifth-round selection from UMass will be one of Marcus Mariota’s top targets. Sharpe beat out the talented, yet troubled Dorial Green-Beckham and veteran Harry Douglas. With Victor Cruz and Sharpe making a name for themselves in the league, the Zoo has turned into #WideReceiverU (shoutout to JimboSlice). Don’t expect too much from a fantasy standpoint from Sharpe this year, but he could be a bye week or mid-season addition.
Not strictly fantasy:
- Von Miller says there’s “no chance” he plays 2016 under the franchise tag. No. 12 wouldn’t mind that.
- Feel good story: Ravens OT Ronnie Stanley adopted a rescue dog that had gone without a home for a long time.
- The Dolphins signed Drake to a contract!
