Giovani Bernard Lands on Fantasy Radars as Joe Mixon’s Status Remains Uncertain

Joe Mixon will likely be a game-time decision for Week 2 and Gio Bernard would be a perfect replacement if he misses time.

Joe Mixon remains a day-to-day injury situation after a seemingly nasty ankle injury that took him out in the first half of Sunday’s game against Seattle.  At first glance it seemed like the type of thing that could’ve kept him on the shelf for a while, but Mixon did receive good news after an MRI, and although he has been spotted limping around the sidelines at Bengals practice, his status for Week 2 remains totally up in the air.

Enter perennial “Hey, he could be a great value in the 12th round” candidate Giovanni Bernard to your fantasy team… maybe?  My first instinct is to say no chance, but after taking a deep breath I realized I could do a lot worse.

If you believed in the Bengals’ ability to run the football (which plenty of us did) before the Mixon injury, Bernard may not be a bad pickup.  The Wolf likes him as his RB22 (+9 over the ECR) and ranks him above the likes of Aaron Jones and Kerryon Johnson, just to name a couple.  The fact is Bernard is a potential 3-down back and a solid play at RB2 this week if Mixon doesn’t go.  If that’s what you’re looking for, snap him up.
