2019 Fantasy Football: Week 11 Start ‘Em or Sit ‘Em

The playoffs are right around the corner.

It’s Week 11.  The fantasy regular season is nearing its conclusion.  I can feel the tears starting to come to my eye as I think of the conclusion of yet another fantasy football season.  The offseason between is dark and full of misery.  With that being said, there are quite a few juicy matchups to exploit this week and a few that you should avoid at all costs.  Let’s boogie!

Start ‘Em

Quarterback

Derek Carr vs Cincinnati

Prior to last weeks struggle-fest against the Chargers, Carr had been on fire.  He had scored 23+ fantasy points against Houston and Detroit.  Carr has actually been solid without Antonio Brown, who was supposed to be the catalyst to this passing attack.  After a much maligned 2017 and 2018 season, Carr has rebounded strongly.  The Bengals are an absolutely awful defense that would let the Little Giants score on them.

The Bengals rank 28th against quarterbacks and I expect Carr to fully be able to carve up the Cincinnati kitty cats.

Honorable Mention: Kyle Allen, Philip Rivers

Running Back

Devin Singletary vs Miami

I have some news for you… the Dolphins suck.  Everything about their offense and defense sucks — especially their defense.  Don’t let that impressive two game winning streak distract you.  This is still the same Dolphins defense that allowed Le’Veon Bell to rack up 111 total yards in Week 9.

Singletary has stolen the backfield from the Infinite One, known as Frank Gore.  The Bills are a run-heavy offense and opposing defenses are still forced to keep one eye on Josh Allen and his booty-scootin’ and gun-slingin’ play style.  Singletary will stampede the hapless Dolphins and win you your fantasy week.

Honorable Mention: Brian Hill, Joe Mixon

Wide Receiver

Curtis Samuel vs Atlanta

Okay I’m going to go out on a bit of a limb here.  Last week I said you should start DeVante Parker and that didn’t turn out terribly.  Samuel hasn’t been that unguardable rock star receiver that everyone saw during training camp.  Still, Samuel has quietly put together a solid season.  In non-PPR formats, Samuel is the WR23 on the season.  The Falcons have a secondary that absolutely breeds fantasy success.  Samuel has scored a touchdown in three of the last four games.

The Falcons rank 25th against fantasy wide receivers and this game has the makings of a sneaky fantasy shootout.  Samuel is in an excellent position to continue his hot scoring streak.

Honorable Mention: Tyrell Williams, Jamison Crowder

Sit ‘Em

Quarterback

Carson Wentz vs New England

This one doesn’t really take a lot of brain power.  It’s the New England Patriots defense.  The Eagles offense has failed to really click, so don’t overthink this.  The Patriots haven’t given up over 12 fantasy points to any quarterback that isn’t Lamar Jackson.  I see no reason for this trend to change.

Honorable Mention: Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins

Running Back

Carlos Hyde vs Baltimore

Hyde has been a pleasant surprise this season.  To say that Hyde has been a disappointing running back for the majority of his career would be polite.  Still, Hyde has found success this season as a workhorse for the Texans.  In PPR formats, his fantasy production can be minimal if he doesn’t score — especially against the ninth ranked Ravens defense vs the running back position. Long story short, if Hyde doesn’t find the end zone, I don’t expect him to produce this week.

Honorable Mention: Adrian Peterson, Royce Freeman

Wide Receiver

Christian Kirk vs San Francisco

Hopefully you capitalized on Kirk’s breakout performance and sold him for great value.  With the playoffs right around the corner, this is the most important stretch of the fantasy schedule.  Kirk has back to back tough matchups with a bye week in the middle.  That’s three weeks where you cannot trust Kirk.

As you can tell, there’s no real reason other than sheer volume that will propel Kirk to fantasy relevance against a stingy 49ers secondary.

Honorable Mention: Stefon Diggs, Allen Robinson
